Alice was born on June 15, 1920, and grew up in Little Falls, MN. As an adult, she moved to Minneapolis, where she met her future husband Emil Wolf. They moved to McLaughlin, South Dakota, and had three children: Sharon, Bruce, and Rebecca. Throughout her life, she enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as cooking, baking and entertaining friends in many social clubs. She was very active in the community, including teaching Sunday school for many years and was involved with the McLaughlin Election Board. She also had the honor of being elected Worthy Matron of the order Eastern Star, and President of the Ladies’ Aid at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
In 1968, Alice and her family moved to Rosemount, MN. Emil passed away in 1972, and in 1973 she met Bernard Murphy and they were married at St. Joseph’s Church. Bernard and Alice loved to go dancing, and could move to everything from ballroom to square dancing. They were very active with the VFW and American Legion, and participated in numerous events and activities together. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling, including spending their winters in Texas.
In 2004, they moved to the Augustana Villa. They enjoyed meeting new people and socializing together, until Bernard died in 2006. Alice remained an active participant in daily life at the Villa, including being a member of the Villa Welcome Committee. She also found a new love for writing, and established the writers’ club, Pen Friends. At age 90, she decided it was time to move to the Augustana Health Care Center, where she lived until the time of her passing.
