Allan Gerald Quist, 73, of Apple Valley, MN died peacefully at Southdale hospital on October 19, 2026, surrounded by his wife and four children after a courageous battle with cancer. The third of six children born to Gerald and Renee Quist, Allan grew up in Pipestone, MN and attended Pipestone High School where he played baseball and was a gymnast. He later married his high-school sweetheart, Lynette Haupert. After six years of dating, they shared 52 loving years of marriage.
Al earned a B.A. degree in accounting at Southwest State University in Marshall. He began his career at an accounting firm in Burnsville and quickly earned his CPA license. He later worked for several other firms, gaining valuable experience and knowledge. He especially enjoyed his position as Vice President of Finance at the Minneapolis YMCA. After working in several roles, he opened his own accounting firm, Quist and Company, which he ran for 10 years before transitioning to consulting. Clients and colleagues knew him for his hard work, integrity, consideration for others, and passion for solving problems. He was also a natural teacher, always willing to share what he knew with family and friends.
Faith was central to Al’s life. He contributed his financial expertise and leadership to the churches he called home and enjoyed singing in church choirs. He also loved singing with the Minnesota Valley Men’s Chorale for 15 years. In his memory, the family intends to create a scholarship fund through the Chorale for students pursuing higher education in the musical arts.
Al found joy in caring for his home and garden, tending to plants and trees, feeding the birds, and working in his yard. He loved camping with family and friends, being at the lake, and tinkering in his back garage. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s events. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He offered help without hesitation, encouraged those around him, and was always ready to cheer someone on. Through his positive attitude, kindness, and humility, he taught his family the value of hard work, compassion, love of life, and faithfulness to God.
Allan is survived by his loving wife, Lynette Quist; his children, Jennifer (Ryan) Hoffe, Nathan (Jennifer) Quist, Amy (Anthony) Racki, and Kathryn (Michael) Bleckwehl; and his nine grandchildren; Daniel, Brooklyn, Andrea, Jacob, Katelyn, Emmett, Aubrey, Emily, and Evan. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses; Gary (Helen) Quist, Brad (Vicki) Quist, Scott (LeAnn) Quist, Sheila (Todd) Smallfield, and John (Sherri) Quist, along with his nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and close friends he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Renee Quist.
His quiet strength, generous heart, unwavering integrity, and deep faith will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Al’s love lives on through his family he cherished, the people he helped, and the wisdom he passed down through generations.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Monday, October 26, 2026 at Hosanna Church, 9600 163rd St. W., Lakeville, MN (Door #5). Gathering of family and friends starting at 9:30 AM prior to service.
