Ardelle was born near Aurora, MN on January 10, 1926; and was raised in Mpls. Her family (mother Edna, Ardelle, brothers Harry Jr and Ray), plus aunts and uncles all lived on the same block as St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church. They would all walk to church together on Sunday mornings. Growing up, Ardelle spent most of her free time at church participating in youth and young adult groups. She considered the church her second home and remained a member her entire life.

Before marriage, Ardelle worked at World Federal Reserve Bank and American Bible Society.

She met future hubby, Kenny Chelmen (100% Norwegian), at St. Paul's church. Ardelle (Swedish-German) received her engagement ring on Syttende Mai, Norwegian Independence Day. She said yes anyway. Kenny and Ardelle wed on October 7,1950. They raised their three children, Kathy, Brad and Kim, in Bloomington.

Ardelle was a talented seamstress (heritage from mother and aunts) who could sew almost anything for her family: clothing, quilts, tablecloths, curtains.

Ardelle and Kenny enjoyed traveling and camping (looked forward to their annual 2 week trips to the Boundary Waters) and staying active at St. Paul's Church serving wherever needed. Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday April 22, 2025 11:00 am in the chapel at Hosanna Church, 9600 163rd St. W, Lakeville.Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment at Ft. Snelling. Memorials preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Hosanna Church.
