Obituary

Bruce Lynn Keil, of Lakeville, MN passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, at the age of 82 surrounded by family.  He leaves behind a remarkable life story filled with love, adventure, continuous learning, and deep devotion to family. Born on July 2, 1942 in Fort Dodge, IA, Bruce was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who lived with heart and purpose.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and cherished wife of nearly 60 years, Carol Runksmeier Keil, and by their two sons: Kevin (Tara) and Kris (Amy), whose lives reflect his steady guidance and pride. Bruce was a loving and proud grandfather to Leah, Brenna, Alicia, Addison, Olivia, and Jackson—each of whom brought him immense joy and countless moments of laughter.

Bruce also leaves behind his beloved twin brother, Brent (Carol Lynn), brother Scott, and brother-in-law Larry DeBoer. He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Lilah, sister Pam, and sister-in-law Sue. The bond between Bruce and his siblings was forged over a lifetime of shared experiences, occasional mischief, full-hearted joy, and enduring love.

Bruce's career included Control Data Corporation, Augsburg Fortress Publishing, and Hamline Law School bookstore, where he developed friendships and truly enjoyed his work. He embraced life, and retirement, with passion and curiosity. Whether he was on the water fishing, planning the next European travel getaway, enjoying a glass of wine, or learning new things on his computer—he lived fully and attentively.

Those who knew Bruce will remember his sharp wit, generous heart, and the quiet strength he carried through all of life's seasons. Bruce was blessed with a tight and robust group of friends with whom he shared travel adventures, celebrated life's special moments, had engaging conversations and debates and simply enjoyed countless evenings together.  His presence will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live on in the stories, traditions, and memories shared by those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11 AM  August 6, 2025 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 20165 Heath Ave., Lakeville, MN where family and friends will gather starting at 10 AM to honor Bruce's memory and share stories.  In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to American Cancer Society.
