Obituary

Mrs. Catherine Kaiser "Cathy" Bloomquist (née Arvidson), age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 11, 2025, in Maplewood, Minnesota. Born on October 21, 1938, in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, she lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and unwavering service to others.

Cathy graduated from Parkers Prairie High School before pursuing her calling in nursing through the Abbott Northwestern Nursing Program. She later expanded her education with a business minor from the College of St. Catherine. Her professional journey spanned over three decades at the Veterans Affairs hospital system, beginning in Baltimore, Maryland. Over the course of 33 years, she rose through the ranks to serve in nursing leadership roles, managing outpatient clinics across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Her work reflected not only her clinical expertise but also her deep commitment to the well-being of veterans and their families.

Family was at the heart of Cathy's life. She is lovingly remembered by her son Dan II (Glori); daughter Diane (Brian); granddaughter Jessica; and grandsons Joey (Lexi) and Danny and great grandson Jamison. She was preceded in death by her parents Reynhart and Zella Arvidson; her husbands Noble Bloomquist and Daniel Kaiser; and her sister Violet Smith.

Cathy's interests reflected her nurturing spirit and love for connection. She found joy in caring for her family, tending to her garden, exploring genealogy, and creating beautiful needlework pieces. Always ready to lend a hand or offer comfort, she was known for assisting neighbors and elderly family members during times of need.

Throughout her life, Cathy remained active in both Lutheran and Catholic communities, drawing strength from her faith and sharing that strength with others through acts of kindness and service.

Those who knew Cathy will remember her constant positive attitude, sunny smile, and kindhearted nature—qualities that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. Donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation
