Dale Richard
Everson
Sep 21, 1939 — Feb 10, 2025
Savage
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dale Everson, who succumbed to pancreatic cancer on February 10, 2025. Born on September 21, 1939, in Cloquet, MN, to Roy and Harriet "Peanuts" Everson, Dale lived a remarkable life that touched many.
Dale attended Cloquet High School, graduating in 1957. He was a gifted athlete, excelling in baseball, football, and hockey, and was the captain of his hockey team. He attended the Duluth Salter Trade School after high school, earning his Drafting Certificate.
In 1959, Dale embarked on his professional journey as a draftsman with Larson & McLaren in Minneapolis, MN. Over the years, he honed his expertise at various architectural firms, focusing on the development of shopping malls and commercial projects. His illustrious career culminated in his role as Vice President of Construction at Madison Marquette. Among his notable projects were the design and development of the first seven Target stores, Quail Springs Mall in Oklahoma City, the expansions of Southdale and Ridgedale Centers in the Twin Cities, Ala Moana Center in Honolulu, Northland Center in Detroit, and the renovation of The Old Post Office in Washington, DC.
Dale and Margie's love story is one of enduring commitment, creating a legacy of warmth, support, and love that resonates through each generation. Dale married Marguerite "Margie" Holmes on April 30th, 1960. Together, they built a beautiful family with four children: Tim, Terry, Tom, and Kristina. As their family grew, they welcomed ten grandchildren and, to date, five great-grandchildren.
Dale was avid sports enthusiast, beginning as a season ticket holder for the Minnesota Vikings in the early sixties. He attended countless Twins and North Stars games and had a deep passion for all Minnesota Golden Gophers sports, especially hockey. Throughout the seventies, Dale played hockey on various men's teams and started his coaching career in 1969 as the first bantam coach for the fledgling Cedar Grove Hockey Association, also coaching the first squirt team that same year. All while, spending countless hours and early mornings with his daughter, helping her craft her sport of figure skating. Over the next 45 years, Dale coached hockey, baseball, and football, impacting the lives of his children, grandchildren, and many others.
When not coaching, Dale was a dedicated spectator at numerous cross-country and track meets, soccer, hockey, football, baseball, softball, lacrosse games, and volleyball and wrestling matches. His commitment to sports was evident not only in his coaching but also in his enthusiastic presence at a wide array of events. Dale was always there, cheering on the athletes. His presence was a familiar and beloved sight at fields and rinks throughout Apple Valley, Eagan, and Shakopee, making him a cherished figure in the local sports community.
Dale's passion for the great outdoors truly defined his life. Whether it was the annual Everson pheasant shoot at Traxler's Hunting Preserve, the camaraderie of the pheasant opener in Frederick, SD, or the fishing seasons at the Everson Cabin, he reveled in these cherished traditions. For over four decades, the annual Canadian fishing trip to Red Wing Lodge was a highlight, filled with bonding moments with his sons and friends. Dale's joy for life extended beyond hunting and fishing; he also had a great love for travel. From adventurous road trips, canoeing in the BWCA and other camping excursions with his family to later years spent cruising the Caribbean with his wife and daughter, he embraced the wonders of the world with unwavering enthusiasm and a spirit of adventure.
Dale found peace and contentment in simpler pleasures. Always, the tinkerer, he spent countless hours in the garage and yard, always lending a helping hand to his kids' home projects. He also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, deer, and waterfowl at his Savage townhome, finding joy in the beauty of nature right outside his home.
Dale's dedication to his family, his work, and his community will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Charles.
