Dale Robert
Miller
Jan 25, 1952 — Feb 7, 2025
Apple Valley
Dale R. Miller, age 73, of Apple Valley, passed away unexpectedly on February 7, 2025.
Dale was born on January 25th, 1952, to Robert and Fern (Fredrickson) Miller. He grew up on the family farm in Wells, MN and graduated from Minnesota Lake High School. After spending his first two years of college at Gustavus Adolphus College, he transferred to Mankato State, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. He met his wife Carol there, and they married on April 26, 1974. That year he started working for Unisys (formerly Sperry, Univac) and also began playing the organ/piano for Portland Avenue United Methodist Church.
After spending a year in Spain for work, Dale and Carol returned and settled in Apple Valley in 1976, where they lived with their two daughters, Laura and Amy. Through his work, Dale traveled worldwide and also loved to travel with his family. Some of his favorite recent places to visit were the Minnesota State Parks, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, Santa Fe and Quebec.
Dale had a great passion for music. In addition to serving as the pianist/organist at his church for 50 years, he was also keyboardist and musical director for dozens of musical theater productions, most notably for The Chameleon Theatre Circle, Eagan Summer Theater, and Community Theater of Burnsville/Applause Community Theatre. When not working or playing music, Dale loved camping, traveling, and spending time with his family. Extended family gatherings were never complete without him playing cards/board games. He also rarely went anywhere without a book in his hand.
He was known for his kind spirit, patience and great sense of humor. His grandchildren knew him as the grandpa who always brought the best treats, gave the best snuggles, played the best music, and was always up for a board game.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Fern.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol; daughters, Laura and Amy (David) Engelhard; grandchildren, Simon and Levi; siblings, Ron (Teri), Clay (Sharyn), and Kris (Charlie) Jones; and many other family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Portland Avenue United Methodist Church "The Port", 8000 Portland Ave, Bloomington, MN 55420, with a gathering of family and friends starting at 10:00 AM. Private family interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to PAUMC or the organization/charity of your choice.
