Darlene Mae
White
Apr 27, 1937 — Nov 3, 2023
St. Louis Park
Darlene Mae White, - partner, protester, survivor, mom, and grandma passed away peacefully at home In St. Louis Park, MN on Nov. 3, 2023 . The irony of someone who so cared for others being taken by another's carelessness, makes this all the harder. "May you continue to inspire us: to enter each day with a generous heart." *John O'Donahue.
Darlene is preceded in death by her son, Bobby; parents, Roger and Inez Mohrbacher, and brothers, Roger, Jack and Tommy Mohrbacher. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Thomas "Tom"; children, Tim, and Karen (partner, Jill); daughter in law, Argerie; grandchildren, Kieran White, and Mac and Morgan and their mother, Suzanne Ferguson; brother, Paul (Ruth) Mohrbacher; sister-in-law, Harriet Mohrbacher, also by other family and friends.
Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Saturday November 11, 2023 at the White Funeral Home, 14560 Pennock Ave., Apple Valley with a visitation on Friday (11/10) from 4-7 PM and 1 hr prior to service all at the funeral Home. Private interment, All Saints Cemetery, Lakeville. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated WAMM.
While Darlene's passions and accomplishments were too numerous and broad to list in total, a few highlights include that she was committed to LGBTQAI rights as part of Rainbow Families, Outfront MN, PFLAG, and visiting with AIDS patients at the beginning of the outbreak. She worked extensively with Grandmother's for Peace, vigiled during Wednesdays "on the corner," supported WAMM, resisted wars around the globe, and protested at Honeywell (a local arms manufacturer) and was arrested there with numerous other activists. She was a proud grandmother of three boys- Mac, Morgan, and Kieran- and a loving mother of her own three children. She was a persistent advocate for the oppressed and the world's underdogs who together with Tom took three refugee families into their home- many we still know and consider as family. She supported Black Lives Matter, and examined her own implicit biases long before there was a BLM. She self-described as a "Catholic in exile," resisting its hierarchical and patriarchal practices and thereby embraced Quakerism and its respect for the God in all. To honor Darlene, we hope you may support the causes she so strenuously believed in, or merely act on one's beliefs as she did.
