David Lawrence
Hagman
May 3, 1948 — Oct 3, 2026
Lakeville
Surrounded by his loving family, David Hagman, age 78 passed away peacefully in Minnesota on October 3, 2026. David was born in Racine, Wisconsin on May 3, 1948 to the late Lawrence and Rose (Mazzie) Hagman.
He graduated from St. Catherine’s High School, Class of 1966, and later attended UW-Platteville where he balanced his pursuit of a business degree with playing golf for the Pioneers.
On August 12, 1972, David married the love of his life, Barbara Evenson at St. Edward Catholic Church in Racine. Together they built a loving home and family which grew to include three kids and ten grandchildren. Barbara was David’s biggest supporter and loving partner that devoted herself to raising the kids and leading at home while he was on the road or taking career advancement roles that required moves across Wisconsin, Missouri, Illinois and Minnesota. They were fortunate to travel the world together for business and pleasure; he preferred for Barbara to be at his side and that stayed true into his final days.
David spent 40 years in the food industry building a career with Hormel Foods (1972- 2012) having held Regional Sales and Management positions within the Prepared Foods Group before taking an executive role at Hormel Corporate offices in Austin, MN in 1987. As David and Barbara emptied the nest, his exemplary leadership and strong business acumen earned them the opportunity to move back “home” to eastern Wisconsin when promoted to President & CEO of Vista International Packaging, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hormel Foods. David held that position from 1996-2012, retiring from Vista but remained on the Board through 2014.
Amidst the freedom to travel the globe with Barbara and spoil their grandchildren, David lived out his purpose to serve others through various roles with the Rotary Club of Kenosha, Knights of Columbus, Goodfellows and Kenosha Area Business Alliance (KABA) while starting his own consulting business in September 2012 to leverage his 40 years of experience and relationships in the food industry to help local businesses thrive.
Throughout his life, David embodied the values of hard work, integrity, and devotion to family. While the years brought many experiences and accomplishments, it was the relationships he built and the love he shared that defined him most.
To those who knew him, David was a steady presence, someone who could be counted on for guidance, encouragement, and a helping hand. He believed in showing love through actions, whether that meant supporting his family, helping a friend, or simply being there when someone needed him. His kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering loyalty left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
David found joy in life's simple pleasures and treasured the time spent with family and friends. He took pride in the people he loved and celebrated their successes as if they were his own. His wisdom, stories, sense of humor, and generous spirit will be remembered and cherished for years to come.
While our hearts are heavy with loss, we take comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind and in the values he passed on to those who loved him. The lessons he taught through his example, compassion, perseverance, and love, will continue to guide his family for generations.
Funeral Services will be at All Saints Catholic Church, 19795 Holyoke Ave, Lakeville, Minnesota on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. There will be a Visitation at 10:30am followed by the funeral Mass at 11:30am.
