Obituary

DAVID JOHN LYTHJOHAN, (Cowboy Dave) 83, of Lakeville, unexpectedly rode off into the sunset July 20, 2026.

Dave was born February 12, 1943 and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. He met Char Lemke in their high school years and after graduation they married. They had two children, Tami and Scott. Although they did not remain married, they stayed friends - a testament to the life and family they continued to share.

Dave worked as a salesman for the majority of his life. He was well known as the "purveyor of the horseless carriage". His career took him to Milwaukee and subsequently to Minnesota.

He also had a passion and love of horses that remained close to his heart. He bred and raised Arabian horses with great pride and dedication. He was an active member of the Orchard Rangers Riding Club, where he spent countless hours on horseback, exploring dusty trails and forming lasting relationships with fellow riders.

He was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Especially the anticipation of the "big buck". He was well known for his love of classic country outlaw music, whiskey, and dancing the two-step. His easy going personality and love of a good time made him a memorable presence. He had a passion for sports, faithfully following the Packers, Vikings, MN Twins, T-Wolves, Lynx and the Wild. There was always a team to cheer for, complain about, or blame.

He will be remembered by all who knew him for his big smile, infectious personality, and remarkable ability to make people feel happy simply by being around him. He could talk to anyone, and they would remember him for days because of all his stories.

His greeting of "darlin" will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was also affectionately known as "papa" to many family friends. Dave was happiest when surrounded by family. His greatest joy was participating in his grandkids activities and events.

Dave is survived by his two children, Tami (Garry) Minor, their sons, Hunter and Derek, great grandsons Harrison and Henry. Scott (Jean) Lythjohan and their daughter, Miranda. Siblings Lois Flee and Don (Sue) Lythjohan, and many other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Alberta Lythjohan.

You will always be loved and remembered, time to cowboy up. Rest in peace.

A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday October 10th from 1p-4p at
