Donald Charles McDonald, ‘Don’ age 94 of Rosemount, formerly of Lakeville, MN, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, ready to take his final journey and be joyfully reunited with his beloved wife of 46 years. Don was born in Bemidji, Mn to Donald L. and Charlotte (Schreiner) McDonald. Don proudly served his county in the US Navy during The Korean war, stationed on the USS Essex. Don married Shirley Mae Wilson on September 12, 1953, in Yuma, Arizona. Don was a dedicated law enforcement officer and retired from the MN State Patrol after 32 years of Service at the age of 55. Don was a Lifetime Member and past post commander of the Lakeville VFW Post 210, and currently a member of the Rosemount VFW Post 9433.
Don and Shirley loved to travel after his retirement, spending winters in McAllen, Texas, enjoying shuffleboard and the finer things in life with the many friendships that they had developed. Don and Shirley raised their family in Stillwater and Lakeville and then eventually moved to El Paso, Texas. Following the untimely death of his beloved wife, Shirley, Don relocated to Rosemount, Minnesota.
Don is preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley; son, Jerry; grandsons, Justin McDonald, Donald ‘Donnie’ McDonald; sons-in-law, Bill Hoffbeck and Kevin Flaig; brother Gerald and special friend, Pat Bjornson. Don is survived by his children: Michael McDonald, Patricia “Pam” McDonald, Thomas C. (Suzette) McDonald, Linda Flaig and Candace Hoffbeck; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday October 19, 2026, at White Funeral Home, 20134 Kenwood TR., Lakeville, MN (952-469-2723) with a gathering of family and friends starting at 12 PM. Internment: Fort Snelling National Cemetery with Military Honors to be held at 1:45 P.M. on Wednesday, November 18, 2026.
