Obituary

Donald Lee Kuplic, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at his home at Eagan Pointe Senior Living. He was born on February 21, 1935, in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, to Edward and Rose Kuplic.

Donald graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1953. A lifelong learner he continued his education at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. On April 7, 1956, he married Shirley DeGrave at St. Phillips Catholic Church. After welcoming their first two children in Green Bay, they moved to Rothschild, Wisconsin, where they were blessed with seven more children. In 1973, the family settled in Burnsville, Minnesota, where they lived for five decades. In addition to the large family, Donald enjoyed traveling with Shirley.

Throughout his life, Donald was dedicated to service. Donald served honorably in the United States Army Reserves, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. His military service reflected a lifelong commitment to leadership, duty, and service to others.

In his professional career, Donald began in sales and went on to excel as an insurance professional with Employers Insurance of Wausau and later Kraus-Anderson Insurance, where he worked for more than 25 years before retiring.

Donald supported religious and civic non-profits and was often recognized for his exceptional service, leadership, and lasting contributions. Two organizations to which he dedicated the greatest portion of his time were the Knights of Columbus and Rotary. He was a Knights of Columbus member for over 60 years, mostly with the Marian Council in Bloomington. In 1980 he achieved Fourth Degree and regularly served at Mass. He is a Past Grand Knight and Former District Deputy. He was a Rotarian for nearly 27 years with the Rotary Club of Burnsville, where he was especially proud of projects such as Bikes for Africa, Education in Africa, and the Maasai Girls School Project. The later Donald and Shirley traveled to Tanzania to witness the fruits of their efforts.

Donald is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, son Michael, his parents Edward and Rose Kuplic, his brothers Neil (Ruth), Jim (Dot), Patrick, and his sister Mary (Edwin). Donald is survived by his eight children; Douglas (Linda); David (Laurel); Daniel (Theresa); Paul; Patrick (Sue); Kathy Gleason (Jeff); John (Lynda); and Donald (Deb).

He has twenty-nine grandchildren including: Katie, Marie (Eddie), Lisa, Steven (Emily), Andrew (Francine), Christy (Ian), Mike (Larkin), Jenny (Alex), Tony (Kateri), Kelly (Kevin), Matthew, Paige, Joseph, Anna (Scott), Amy (Tyler), Joshua (Liz), Cassie (Anthony), Briana, Matthew (Katie), Joseph (Maria), William (Katie), Naomi (Brandon), Caleb (Ashley), Sami, Kasey, Madeline (Jake), Benjamin (Leela), Phillip (Kyra), and Sarah (Sam). He also has twenty-eight great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. John the Baptist, 4625 W 125th, Savage MN, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM and rosary at 9:10 AM. Burial at St John the Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: St Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, SD; St. Paul Seminary; and Minnesota Hospice.
