Balsam, Bill, age 84 of Apple Valley passed away June 2, 2025 peacefully surrounded by his family.  Preceded in death by his parents: Elmer Sr "Doc" and Loretta "Det" Balsam; Siblings: Charlie Balsam and Nannette Morgan; brother-in-law, Ronald Lee. Survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret; children: Brook (Tony) Shipp, Wade Balsam, Wreford (Julie) Balsam, and Brett (Maggie) Balsam; grandchildren: Alexis, Alyssa, Tristan, Keinan, Keller, Kelsey, Alexandra, and Kaitlin; great grandchildren: Sage, Jovi, Oscar, Olive, Magnolia, Ryder, and Bennett; siblings: Barbara Lee and Detta Graham; sister-in-law, Madonna Balsam; also by other loving family and friends.

Born in Billings, MT and raised in Miles City, Bill earned his undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from Montana State University in Bozeman, and later his master's degree in leadership from Augsburg University in St. Paul. Following in his father's footsteps, he began his career in the trucking industry by founding his own company, Hornoi. In 1987, he sold the company to Cenex Harvest States and relocated his family to Apple Valley, MN. He continued working for Cenex for another 20 years, retiring in 2007.

Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time with family, especially their weekly coffee get-togethers. He had a deep passion for genealogy and photography, spending countless hours researching family history and restoring old photographs. Always handy, he was a skilled builder and problem-solver who was happiest lending a hand to those who needed it.
