Prior Lake
Gary Edward Hartmann and Mary Patricia (Monnens) Hartmann
Gary Edward Hartmann, born June 15, 1957 and his wife Mary Patricia (Monnens) Hartmann, born December 14, 1955, both of Prior Lake, Minnesota, passed away in July 2026 after courageous battles with cancer. Mary passed on July 2, 2026, and Gary followed thereafter on July 26, 2026. Their lives were intertwined with love, faith, family, hard work and simple joys, and they leave behind a legacy that will be deeply cherished.
Gary was the son of Floyd and Clara Hartmann and one of a large family. He was a lifelong farmer who took great pride in his work and his land. He found joy in the long hours spent during the planting and harvest seasons. He found his greatest joy in time spent with his grandchildren, Levi and Emma, and in quiet moments sitting on the beach in Mexico, soaking in the sun and the peace of the ocean. He enjoyed cooking meals, particularly grilling and having Sunday night dinners with the family. Gary will be remembered for his steady presence, strong work ethic and the gentle way he loved his family.
Mary was the daughter of Don and Jean Monnens and one of a close knit family. She poured her creativity and care into everything she did. She loved antique shopping, finding beauty and history in treasured pieces. She was an avid baker especially around Christmas when she would create numerous cookies and candies with her daughters and grandchildren and would share them with all those she loved. She was an avid sewer and quilter, creating warmth and comfort with her hands and she enjoyed spending time in her garden, nurturing flowers and plants with the same tenderness she showed her family. Her home, her crafts and her garden reflected her generous spirit and her eye for beauty.
They faced their illnesses with courage, faith and dignity, and their strength in the face of hardship will continue to inspire all who knew them. After a lifetime of love and more than 47 years side by side, Gary and Mary will remain together for eternity.
Together, Gary and Mary built a family grounded in love, faith and support. They are survived by their daughters, Amy (Jim) Frith and Rachel (John) Mach and their beloved grandchildren, Levi and Emma, who were the light of their lives. They will be remembered as loving parents and grandparents, devoted partners and faithful friends.
It was Gary and Mary's wish to have a joint service and place them to rest together. A visitation will occur at White Funeral Home in Lakeville on August 27th from 4-7 pm and an hour visitation prior to mass on August 28th at St. Nicholas Church in Elko New Market at 11am with luncheon to follow at Legends Golf Course in Prior Lake.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to HealthPartners Frauenshuh Cancer Center where both Gary and Mary received their treatments.
