Obituary

Geraldine Marie Schmitt was born on September 13, 1931, to John and Mary Stienessen.

Gerry was the third of seven children.  She attended school in Minneota, Minnesota through her senior year in high school.

On November 22, 1955, she married Wilfred Schmitt.  They farmed by St. Leo, Minnesota until January of 1979 when they moved to Dawson, Minnesota.

Gerry was full of energy and had many interests; she couldn't just sit down, she was always doing something.  She loved to garden (flowers and vegetables), canning the produce from the garden, sewing, knitting, embroidery, quilting, reading, bowling, golfing, playing cards and bingo.  She never understood how people could get bored when there was so much to do.

Mom always said being married to Willie meant I better learn to like sports… and that she did.  She loved watching the Twins foremost, but also the Vikings and Timberwolves.  She just could not understand when the Twins would trade her favorite players!

Mom would have loved to have had a large family, but that just was not what God planned.  To make the most of that, she loved spending time with nieces, nephews and Pam's friends.

Gerry is survived by her daughter, Pam Caflisch (John), and brother Harold (Fran) Stienessen.

Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Willie, her parents, two sisters, three brothers and many other relatives and friends.

Gerry Schmitt died Friday, April 4, 2025, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center at the age of 93.

Thanks for the memories, Mom, you will be missed every… single… day.
