James Leroy
Miller
Oct 27, 1941 — Sep 5, 2025
Burnsville
Miller, James L. Age 83 of Burnsville passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025. Preceded in death by his father Elmer Severn Miller, his mother Lois Harvey Miller and his sister Jean Miller Landsverk.
A wonderful dad to James L. Miller, Jr. (Karen), Michele A. Karas (Bob), Aimee L. Flies (Marc) and grandpa to Jade Butler-Miller, Madison Karas and Shale Karas. He was also an uncle to Elizabeth Landsverk and John Landsverk.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's Degree in Science majoring in math with the distinction of Phi Beta Kappa. He proudly shared that he actually graduated from college before he graduated from high school.
After college he worked as a high school math teacher in Faribault, then proceeded to work for Remington Rand, Univac, Sperry Univac, Sperry, Unisys, Paramax, Loral and finally Lockheed Martin in Eagan as a principal software engineer for the tactical defense systems. He retired after 34 years of dedicated service. He was a highly intellectual man who enjoyed problem solving in work and for fun.
He was a member of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville. He lived in Burnsville for over 45 years most recently moving to Brookdale Memory Care in West St. Paul early this spring.
His passions included collecting metal/wood disentanglement puzzles, thrift store outings, collecting stuffed animals (nicknamed "Stuffies") as well as wood sculptures during thrift outings. He enjoyed visiting all his friends that he has made over the years at these various stores. Thank you to his friends who had a place in his life, you all truly meant the world to him.
In the summer he took immense pleasure in coaching his daughters' softball teams along with his son's umpiring assistance. We feel very blessed and appreciative for his dedication to showing us a multitude of experiences including theaters, museums, trips, AWA & WWF wrestling matches, Wood Lake, Minnehaha Falls, cross-country skiing, and magic shows. He wanted to raise us to be well-rounded, educated, kind, loving Christians and he had the feeling of pride he succeeded at that.
