Jim was called home to his Heavenly Father the morning of May 19, 2017 following a five year battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. (IPF) Jim was a man of profound faith whose family, and numerous close friends meant the world to him. His Mother and Father, Bill and Gloria passed on several years ago. He leaves behind Joan, his beloved wife, best friend and companion. Five children, Danah McCammon Ortaleza, husband Barry and grandson Ben. Reed McCammon Barnes, husband John and grandsons Jake and Carter. Tim Huglen and partner Barbara O'Connor, and grandsons Jake, Jordie and Josh. Tom Huglen and granddaughter Paige and grandson Elliot, and Tonya Dahlenbach, husband Mark and grandchildren Devon, Taylor, Declan and Daxon. Siblings Laurie Haller and husband Tom, Deb Comerford and husband Matt, and David McCcammon and husband Rob, and several cousins. Jim was close to many nephews and great nephews and close friends that were his hunting buddies. His church friends played an important role in his life and Jim was a person who kept friendships with high school buddies and former work colleagues.
Jim was a foodie in every sense of the word. He could brine, grill, smoke, braise and roast any cut of meat you gave him. Gatherings in his home were always sure to have an excellent meal, paired with a beautiful vintage and accompanied by his robust sense of humor. Jim remembered every Dr. Seuss story he ever read to his children. He routinely entertained us with naughty limericks and off color bar jokes until we cried laughing. He was a storyteller beyond measure and could have given Garrison Keillor a run for his money.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, canoe and camp, mostly in the Superior National Forest and in Northern lakes and Canada. He and Joan loved camping and spending time in the wilderness together. As a member at Suburban Sports Club he enjoyed shooting with friends and family. An important part of Jim's life was spent at the hunting camp near Grand Marais, which began in 1938. Jim made sure that the family values and hunting traditions that he learned from his grandfather and father, be passed to future generations. With that being said, Jim has asked that his ashes be spread at the hunting camp.
He was a voracious reader throughout his life, beginning with reading through encyclopedias at bed time when he was young, to hunting and fishing magazines, political news, to being faithful in reading God's Word. In his younger years Jim loved to downhill ski and was a ski patrolman at Welch Village. Jim graduated from St. Paul Central High School and attended the University of Minnesota Morris where he studied Geology.
Jim's career was spent mostly in sales – from the fire equipment industry, to insurance, to Ari-Hetra, KKMS, to his last and favorite job selling fine art at the Kincaid Gallery.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Tuesday, May 30, at 11:00 with visitation one hour prior at Christian Life Church, 6300 – 212th Street West, Farmington, MN 55024. Memorials preferred to: Christion Life Academy (address above) or www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org
