Obituary

Janet entered the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in her home on February 3rd, surrounded by family. Jan is survived by her husband Jim; daughters Debbie, Lisa (Cory) and Amy; grandchildren Jacquelyn, Madelyn, Riley, Kaitlyn and great grandchild Vienna; brothers Bob (Elvie), Doug (Cindy) and Jim (Mo); and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marian Scherphorn.

Jan was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 17, 1948. Faith, music and family were most prominent in her life. Her love of music was nurtured by her father who played Bach, Handel and Beethoven for her. It continued through activities like school choir, the Farmington Choral and church choir.

In 9th grade (1963) she met her husband, Jim Luxa. They remained sweethearts through high school and college and were married in 1970. They moved to Mississippi in 1971 where Jim served in the Air Force and Jan taught elementary school, where she was quickly accepted into the community because of her extraordinary love for children.

In 1975, they moved to Farmington, MN where they started their family and became part of the Trinity Lutheran congregation. Jan always felt that singing is a glorious way for us to praise our God and spent the next 42 years doing so as the choir director for the church. Her love of children continued in church where she worked with children of all ages in Sunday School and programs she organized like Operation Christmas Child and Reflectors of Christ Puppet Ministry. Her love of family was always evident in everything she did.

Jan believed she could, so she did.
