Obituary

JoAnn Caroline Krieger Morphew
August 11, 1930 – April 21, 2026

JoAnn Caroline Krieger Morphew, age 95, passed away peacefully in Burnsville, Minnesota at Fairview Ridges Hospital where she volunteered for many years. In her last days, she was surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her dear husband Alan Morphew; father Robert Krieger; mother Esther Domian; and beloved son Dean Morphew. She is survived by her son Dale (Jill), daughter-in-law Patricia, son David (Theresa), son Peter (Mary), and son Bruce; her grandchildren Holly (David), Tyler (Steph), Joel (Erin), Nick (Steph), Jack, Rachael (Josh), Michael, and Annie; her great-grandchildren Archer, Lottie, Jonathan, Matthew, and Elizabeth; her sisters Delores Dittoe, Jacqueline Miller, and Roberta Wolven; and many nieces and nephews. JoAnn was born August 11, 1930 in St. Paul, MN. She and her sisters loved to ice skate with their parents who were speed skaters. She attended Johnson High School in St. Paul and completed nursing training at Evangelical Deaconess in St. Louis, MO. Becoming a Registered Nurse was one of her proudest achievements. JoAnn met her husband, Alan, on a blind date when she was 25. Alan was so certain that JoAnn was "the one" that he sold his first airplane to purchase an engagement ring. They
married within five months of meeting on August 6, 1955 and spent 62 devoted years together. Alan was a pilot who owned 14 single-engine planes in his lifetime and used them to travel with his wife. JoAnn's favorite adventure was a trip to Alaska where they would camp behind the airplane. She remembered that it would stay light outside almost the entire day and night. They visited Alaska twice and explored other travel destinations such as Hawaii, Switzerland, France, and her ancestral homeland Germany. They were blessed with their first son a year into marriage and had four more boys in ten years. JoAnn worked at St. John's Hospital in St. Paul until her fourth son, Peter, was born and then decided to stay home with her boys. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her family and friends will always remember her one-of-a-kind wit, generosity, and fierce independence. She was a perennial hostess who welcomed loved ones to her home (and Alan's hangar) on any possible occasion: holiday dinners, bonfires (or "wiener roasts" as Jo called them), impromptu fireworks displays, and celebrations of family milestones. Baking, crocheting, knitting, and photography brought her joy. She loved to cook and even used to render her own lard to make homemade donuts! JoAnn's life was profoundly shaped by her faith in an active and present God. Throughout
her life she cultivated a deep, personal relationship with her savior Jesus Christ that sustained her through life's trials. She often went to her Bible for comfort, particularly Psalm 19:14: "May the words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." She wholeheartedly believed a guardian angel protected her and her loved ones. She was an active member of the congregation at Berean Baptist Church in Burnsville, MN and will be greatly missed by her brothers and sisters in Christ. Funeral services will be held at White Funeral Home in Lakeville, MN on April 30. Pastor Jake Huffman of Berean Baptist Church officiating. Visitation at 10 am and service at 11 am.
Private interment to follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements are by White Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Amnion Crisis Pregnancy Burnsville, MN
