Obituary

John D. Hamling – Age 64, of Burnsville, Minn., passed away May 12, 2026, after a life marked by both hardship and quiet perseverance. John, also known as Yogi to many of his acquaintances, is survived by his mother Donna (DeZiel) Hamling, his four siblings Paul (Patricia) Hamling, Janet (Doug) Olsen, Nancy (Timothy ) Crothers, Thomas (Suzanne) Hamling, fifteen nieces and nephews, and twenty-one grandnieces and grandnephews. John was preceded in death by his father, Donald Hamling, and his grandnephew, Gabriel Grassi.

John was born on August 20, 1961, raised in Eagan, Minnesota, and spent his adult years in nearby cities, carrying with him a reserved nature and a sharp mind. He worked in computer programming for American Linen and C.H. Robinson and later held various positions with Cub Foods. He retired in 2019 and spent much of his later years living quietly and privately.

Though John preferred solitude, his life was marked by a quiet kindness and generosity that often went unseen. He carried a generous spirit and rarely sought credit for the ways he helped others. Those fortunate enough to know him personally understood the depth of his compassion and loyalty. He enjoyed watching television and especially treasured engaging in fast-paced and lighthearted text message exchanges in the "Ham Fam" chat group. Those small moments of humor and connection brought warmth to his days and will remain cherished memories for those closest to him.

John's life was not always easy, but he faced it in his own way and left behind memories of wit, resilience, love, and an enduring family connection. He will be remembered with love by his family and all who shared in those moments of laughter and conversation.
