John Michael "Mike" Kamrad II
Mike Kamrad, 79, of Lakeville, Minnesota passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025 surrounded by loving family.
Born August 31, 1945 in Washington, DC to the late John and Dottie Kamrad. He grew up in Rockville, MD and graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 1963 (earning the nickname "Kamoose"). Mike attended the University of Maryland, where he graduated with a Master's Degree in Computer Engineering.
Mike is survived by Mary his loving wife of 57 years, son Michael, daughter Katie, and adopted daughter Denise Dudley. Grandsons Tyrese and Markco, great grandchildren Aubrie and TJ. Mike was the adored big brother to his sister Peggy (Randy) Wight of Frederick, MD. Beloved brother-in-law to Tim (Bing) Carroll, Mike (Steph) Carroll, Pat (Kat) Carroll, Bill (Alicia) Carroll, Joanne (Tom) Williams, Joy (Julio) Figueroa. He was the fun uncle to numerous nephews and nieces.
Mike started his career as a computer science teacher at Cobleskill Ag and Tech College in upstate New York, then as a teacher at Anne Arundel Community College in Annapolis, MD. In 1973, he relocated and started as an engineer at Unisys in Eagan, MN, followed by engineering positions at Honeywell, then Top Layer and Raytheon in Massachusetts. Mike was a dedicated and hard-working employee, notably one of the primary developers of the ADA programming language used in Defense applications.
Mike's hobbies included craft beer brewing, and he won several awards from the Minnesota Brew Fest for his home brews. He also was an avid reader of every newspaper and magazine that was nearby. Mike had large collections of eyeglasses, watches, and shoes. He never passed by a baby or a pet without stopping to wave and smile.
Mike especially loved to travel. His favorite spots were Key West FL, Duck NC, and old Quebec City. He also made several trips to England, France, Ireland, Scotland, & Wales, traveling with his family as well as parents and In-laws. His trips to England included several through the countryside, in canal longboats.
Mike was always a volunteer. In Rosemount MN he was a longtime member of the JC's. In Apple Valley MN he was a lector and choir member at Mary, Mother of the Church in Burnsville. In Shrewsbury MA he was the "Ask me Guy" at UMass Memorial Hospital for many years after he retired.
Mike will be greatly missed by all of his loved ones and friends. He had a great enthusiasm for sports, racquetball, motorcycles, sports cars, animals, singing, laughter, and life.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 AM Friday January 30, 2026 at White Funeral Home in Lakeville, MN. with a gathering of family and friends starting at 10 AM. A luncheon will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to the Animal Humane Society, and the 360 Communities Food Shelf.
