Obituary

John Dale Torgerson, age 81, passed away on August 17, 2026. John was born on March 7, 1945, in Parshall, North Dakota, to Jesse Julian Torgerson and Alice Lucille Torgerson. Growing up in North Dakota helped shape the strength, determination, and quiet resilience that would remain with him throughout his life.

John served his country in the United States Army Reserves at Fort Snelling and went on to complete his college education. He built a successful career in construction sales, spending much of his professional life with Liebherr. He was respected for his work ethic, knowledge, and the relationships he developed throughout his career.

But John's life was about much more than his work. He met the love of his life, Linda, and together they shared nearly 55 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He dedicated countless hours of his free time to coaching his children and supporting the activities that were important to them. He loved hockey, NASCAR, and music, especially gospel and bluegrass, which brought him great joy throughout his life. He also cherished his time in Arizona, which held a very special place in his heart. John appreciated life's simple pleasures.

John was many things to many people, but those who knew him best will remember him most for the person he was. He was gentle and kind, with a quiet strength that was unmistakable. He was also one of the toughest people his family knew—a man who faced life's challenges with determination, courage, and resilience, rarely, if ever, complaining about what he was going through. No matter what life put in front of him, John carried on with strength and grace, while never losing the kindness and gentle nature that defined him.

Above all, John loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Linda Sullivan Torgerson; his son, Brad Torgerson and his wife, Tina; his daughter, Michelle Torgerson Wolf and her husband, Dale; his grandchildren, Lauren Torgerson Tripple and her husband, Alex, Cole Torgerson and his wife,  Emma, Jack Wolf, and Laney Wolf; and his great-grandchild, Parker Tripple; brother Merwin and his wife, Janet Torgerson; and many nieces and nephews.

John leaves behind a legacy not measured simply by the years he lived or the work he accomplished, but by the family he loved, the people he encouraged, and the lives he touched. His strength, kindness, and gentle nature will remain with those who loved him and will be deeply missed.
