Joyce S.
Mathias
Sep 16, 1928 — Feb 27, 2025
BURNSVILLE
Joyce S. Mathias, Surrounded by her three loving daughters, Joyce Synnott Mathias was welcomed in to the eternal embrace of our Lord on
February 27, 2025.Joyce had a fabulous life and was truly one-of-a-kind. She was born September 16, 1928, in Three Lakes, Wisconsin. The family moved to Rib Lake, Wisconsin where she met her sweetheart, Henry Mathias, in the 4th grade. They knew then and there that they would always be together.
Joyce attended Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. One of her favorite memories of that time was traveling with the choir. After graduation she worked at Robert W. Baird where she learned to be stock market savvy. Hank and Joyce married on May 3, 1952 and moved to Wauwatosa, WI where two of their daughters were born; Suzanne Mathias Reynolds and Pamela Mathias Jacobs.
Hanks career brought them to Minnesota in 1962 where they found the home of their dreams in Burnsville. It was there that their third daughter; Joanne Mathias Allen was born.Joyce was first and foremost a loving wife, marvelous Mom, amazing Granny and Greatest Great Granny. She became a stay at home mom and she and Hank were very active in their children and grand- children's lives. Joyce's love for her family was unparalleled. She was always someone her family could go to for love and advice, comfort and great conversation.
She was a fun and loving Granny to grandsons, Ryan Wensmann and John Reynolds and was over the moon thrilled when she became a great grandmother to Isla and Sloane Wensmann. She demon- strated to her family what it was like to be a loving wife, mother, granny, good neighbor and good friend. Joyce will be remembered as a loving, generous, intelligent, wise and beautiful person. She was an inspiration and taught us to look for the good in everyone and every thing. She brought joy to all who met her.
Joyce and Hank cherished their many friendships, whether formed in high school, Milwaukee or Burnsville. They loved entertaining, hosting many elegant dinner parties; most often Joyce was the best dressed in the room. All were welcomed with open arms and her smile would light up the room.So many lives were blessed and enriched by their precious friendship
Henry (Hank) passed away in November, 2000. Both gave their family rich memories of love, faith and traditions. After Hank's passing, Joyce gave her family the courage to heal. She spent many more years continuing to live life to the fullest. She began every morning with the words "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad", and reminded her family to "Always count their Blessings"; she had many and was faithful to our Lord. We feel at peace knowing that Hank and Joyce are together with our Lord watching over us. Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband Henry (Hank) Mathias of 48 years, parents, Gunda and Edward Synnott, sister, Joanne Gahnz, and brother, John Synnott.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Reynolds, (Bill); Pamela Jacobs, (Timn); Joanne Allen, (Gaylen); grandson, Ryan Wensmann, (Shawna); great grand- daughters, Isla and Sloane; grand son, John Reynolds, (Cassidy).
