Kathleen Ryan
Tousignant
Mar 12, 1925 — Jan 30, 2025
Lakeville
Kathleen (Kate) McHugh Ryan Tousignant of Lakeville, MN passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, just six weeks shy of her 100th birthday. Although her birthday party had to be cancelled, we're certain there was a celebration in heaven when Kate showed up.
Kathleen Joan McHugh was born March 12, 1925 to Henry and Hazel (Pierce) McHugh in Farmington, MN, one of six children. After graduating from Farmington High School in 1943 Kate attended Mankato Teaching College for two years, but with the WWII efforts, she instead went to work in the ordinance plant in Rosemount. She married Dorance Ryan on October 23, 1946. Her family enjoyed her homemade bread and pies, which she has continued to make as recently as last Christmas, and she sewed many of the clothes for her girls when they were young. Dorance passed away in 1971 after 24 years of marriage. While continuing to raise her family, she worked as a Welcome Wagon ambassador and in the retail business. She married Ed Tousignant in 1985 and enjoyed driving the tractor to collect golf balls at Ed's Galaxy Golf driving range. She and Ed enjoyed traveling and playing cards with friends during their 26 years together before Ed passed away in 2011. Throughout Kate's life, her strong faith brought her through many adversities.
Kate is survived by four children: Joni Ryan (Barry Lovelace, deceased), Judi (Steve) Hawkins, Patsy Ryan (Mark Zweber), Jerry Ryan, and daughter-in-law Janet Ryan; grandchildren Terri (Chris) Dill, Barritt Lovelace, Ryan (Beth) Lovelace, Katie Ringeisen, Kyle Ringeisen, Mackenzie (Al) Platt, Willie (Jenna) King, Nick (Kelsie Buck) Ryan, Sami (Teddy) Bulinski, Colin Zweber and Garrett (Aspen) Zweber; 14 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Also stepchildren Julianne (Roger) Keller, Jim Tousignant (Cindy D), Carol (Dave) Harwell, Mary (Dave) Korthauer, Ellen (Dale, deceased) Leidner, Mark (Patsy) Tousignant, and Kathy (Mike) Goehring; sister-in-law Mary Alice Moeller; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by daughter Peggy in 2011, and son Tom in 2019; siblings James McHugh, Dorothy (Jim) Bower, June (Ed) Murphy, Mary (Gerry) McCall, and Helen (George) Fischer; Ryan in-laws Joe Ryan, Bernita (Joe) Moore, Blanche (Elmer) Hoffbeck, Bill (Avis) Ryan, Mark (Margaret) Ryan, Bob (Rita) Ryan, Donna (Frank) Goggin, Mary Ann (Bill) Coutier; and Tousignant in-laws Luella, Leo, Betty, Julia, Ray, Irene, and Marion.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Fairview Southdale Hospital and Grace Hospice, and for caregiver Jodi Muelken for the wonderful care they provided during Kate's last days.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at All Saints Catholic Church, 19795 Holyoke Ave., Lakeville, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at church. Interment will be held immediately after services at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (cff.org).
