Obituary

Hrabe, Koyla J., age 84 of Apple Valley passed away peacefully and beautifully on February 28th at her home, surrounded by family.  Preceded in death by her parents: Milton "Mox" and Verna Knowlton and sister, Sharen Knowlton.  Survived by her husband of 62 years, Jim; children: Jeff (Erika), Kris Hrabe, Mike (Rosalee), Tom (Mikki), and Matt (Emily); grandchildren: Andrew, John, Sam, Joe, Tasha, Anndy, and Willow; grandnephew Kevin; step-grandchildren: Ella and Jaylin; great-grandchildren: Adelyn, Andrew, Lilly, and Juniper; sister, Jan (Dwight) Oates; also by many other loving family and friends whom Koyla adored.  Memorial Service at Church of the Risen Savior (1501 E CR 42) Burnsville, Thursday March 13th, 2025 at 11 AM. Visitation 1 hr prior to service at church.

Koyla was a loving, nurturing, and selfless wife, Mom, family member, and friend.  She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother, and she treasured her nieces and nephews.  She enjoyed and looked forward to every gathering of family and friends and to catching up personally with everyone she could.  Koyla had a genuine curiosity for how they were doing and had a way of making you feel valued.

Koyla chose nursing as her vocation and worked in intensive care and surgery as an RN most of her career.  She was extremely dedicated to her work and was an exceptional nurse.

Koyla was a serial greeting card and note sender.  Whatever the occasion, whether a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or just if she thought you needed some kind words, Koyla was always ready with a pen in hand to drop you a card or note to let you know she was thinking of you.

She enjoyed reading, crosswords, musicals, and sports.  She was a passionate fan of the Vikings and Twins and she researched and filled out a bracket for March Madness every year to compete with Jim and eventually the whole Hrabe clan.

Especially after retiring, Koyla went on trips with her friends every year to various parts of the country, and she and Jim frequently visited San Diego to see family and enjoy the beach and ocean.  After moving to Apple Valley she quickly became part of the fabric of her neighborhood and rarely missed monthly lunches and gatherings with her friends.

Koyla was known for her many traditional holiday treats and her lefse, chex mix, peanut brittle and cookies are famous with her family and friends.  She was only too happy to pass on her recipes and secrets but no one has come close to recreating her toffee bars, so those will stay with her and in our memories!

Koyla was a woman of faith and the rock of her family.  She was an incredible Mom who loved her children and their families and made each of us feel special.  Our Mom was a calming and compassionate person happily willing to support anyone who needed it and always ready to listen

She was dearly, dearly loved, and will be missed by all.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Koyla's hospice care team Brenda, Erin, and Jessica for their compassion and support during Koyla's final days.
