Logan James
Sampson
Mar 14, 2001 — Sep 9, 2025
New Praugue
Logan J Sampson, age 24 of New Prague passed away unexpectedly on September 9, 2025. Preceded in death by his Grandma Joanie; survived by his mother, Nicole (Jake) Tietz and his father, Rob (Rachel) Sampson; sisters: Haley (Thomas) and Ella; step-brothers: Myles and Will Tietz; step-sisters: Jenna (Mike) Mahlke and Jessica Jackson; grandparents: James Olsen, Georgia Olsen, Rolin and Linda Sampson; and his beloved dog, Scooby Doo.
Others surviving Logan are his aunts and uncles: Michelle (Clark) Camilli, Lori (Mike) Finney, Mark (Kris) Olsen, and Lori Sampson; cousins Payton, Sophie, and Chase Camilli; Carlos and Rony Finney; and Megan and Jack Olsen and Kelsey Girard; special friends Evan and Emma Atkins, along with many other close friends. He will also be dearly missed by newly added grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins from Jake's (Nicole) family and Rachel's (Rob) family, who accepted Logan as a true grandson, nephew, and cousin.
Logan grew up in Lakeville, MN with his sisters Haley and Ella. There was always something to do with his cousins across the street or the other neighborhood kids, including jumping on the trampoline, night games, playing hockey on the pond, or riding through Scooter Town. Logan loved his time at Canterbury watching his grandparents' horses run, and he continued to be a staple at Grandpa Rollie's table into adulthood. He played soccer, hockey and ultimate frisbee competitively throughout his childhood. He was a fantastic team player, and his coaches noted his ability to take their instruction in stride to make the team better. Logan was proud to be a Lakeville North Panther and, as part of the Super Fans, generated school spirit with loud cheers at sporting events. He pursued his college education at Mizzou and South Dakota State, where he continued to make friends and leave an impact on those around him.
Logan was known for his fierce love for his family and close friends and the gentle kindness he demonstrated to everyone. He was known to go out of his way to gather people together and coordinate activities to make sure everyone had a good time. If you were resistant, you would get one of Logan's signature smart-aleck comments that embodied his dry, goofy sense of humor followed by his loving but devious smirk. His persistent goal was to make you laugh, but his contagious smile was infectious anyways. He was quick to help with anything you asked, or didn't ask, and was a notoriously hard worker. Logan always liked to look nice and loved a good, comfy flannel.
Logan loved watching and participating in fantasy leagues for football and hockey. He had a wealth of knowledge on the players, and he scheduled his day around the Wild and Viking games. You could usually find him in his garage at the 601 watching sports and teasing Scooby Doo. When the "important" teams weren't playing, he took control of the music and created a killer playlist from scratch. He had a natural knack for card games, quarters, beer darts and any other game you taught him. Good luckto his opponent! His tight knit friend group – Emma, Evan and the other "card carrying members" of Communists Don't Believe in Ice Cream –tried to keep up with him in Mario Kart and perpetuated his shenanigans.
Logan should be remembered for all of the good-natured teasing, humorous tomfoolery, sports knowledge, strong relationships, selfless actions, loyalty, incredible resilience and endless generosity. In his honor, please spread his iconic kindness and love throughout your life to make this world a better place.
