Obituary

November 25, 1963 – September 24, 2026

With heavy hearts, we share the loss of Lorna Jean Peterson, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who peacefully left us in her sleep at home on September 24, 2026. Born in Cambridge, Minnesota, on November 25, 1963, Lorna wove a vibrant tapestry of love, resilience, and deep connections throughout her life.

Lorna was the treasured adopted daughter of Earl and Ruth Harrington, and later, Ruth and Ed Mikulski. After graduating from Stillwater High School, she set out on a journey that would leave a lasting mark on countless lives.

In 1983, Lorna married Gary A. Meidlinger in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and together they welcomed three wonderful children: Gary, Steven, and Miranda. When their marriage ended in 1996, Lorna embraced new beginnings with grace and courage, moving to Rosemount, MN, with her children to start a fresh chapter.

Fate brought even more love into Lorna’s life when she met Scott D. Peterson, her neighbor just across the driveway. Their friendship blossomed into a heartfelt love story, welcoming their son Taylor in 2000 and celebrating their marriage on April 23, 2005. Their bond deepened through shared joys: caring for dogs, camping adventures, friendly competition in softball and bowling leagues, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, and laughter-filled trips to the cabin with friends.

Lorna’s life stood as a beacon of perseverance and positivity, even in the face of profound challenges, including the heartbreaking loss of her infant son, Steven, in 1986, and her struggles with health and mobility in later years. Her humor and unwavering spirit inspired everyone around her. She could always spark laughter with a well-timed joke, brightening any room. Lorna’s selflessness was boundless, and her love touched all she cherished. Whether through a warm meal, a handmade craft, late-night help with school projects, or a few kind words, she showed her devotion in countless ways. Her strength shone brightly and lives on in her children.

Her passions were as vibrant as her spirit. She sang with joy in the traveling choir, Sprint Bound, where music, friendship, and adventure came together. She was a dedicated member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church, the place where she and Scott exchanged vows. She found comfort in books and cherished her many visits to the Dakota County library. Lorna’s creativity sparkled in her scrapbooking, quilting, handmade costumes, and delicious baking.

She treasured family gatherings most, whether for the holidays, attending her grandchildren’s plays or dance recitals, sharing stories around a glowing campfire, or for the annual corn roast. Playing cards, dominoes, or a spirited game of spoons with loved ones always lit up her face with joy, especially when she won. Her home and heart overflowed with music. She delighted in attending concerts at the State Fair with her brother or family, karaoke nights with friends, and the cheerful sound of Christmas music she played year-round.

Lorna is survived by her devoted husband, Scott Peterson; her children, Gary (Jeannie) Meidlinger, Miranda Miller, and Taylor Peterson; and her beloved grandchildren, Claire, Kelsey, and Sadie Meidlinger. She also leaves behind her brothers, Russell, Scott, and Shawn Harrington; her mother-in-law, Roberta Peterson; her faithful dog, Coco; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Earl Harrington, Ruth and Ed Mikulski; her father-in-law, Donald Peterson; and her infant son, Steven Meidlinger.

A celebration of Lorna's life will be held on October 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Christus Victor Lutheran Church, located at 7510 Palomino Dr, Apple Valley, MN 55124. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring her extraordinary life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you donate in Lorna’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, reflecting her generous spirit and lifelong dedication to helping others.

Lorna’s light will forever shine in the hearts of all she touched with her kindness, resilience, and laughter.
