Obituary

It is with great sadness that we record the passing of Lyle Kenneth Wolf on March 18th, 2025 at the age of 77. He was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Lois Wolf, two brothers Allen (Marge) Wolf and Harry 'Hap' Wolf, and daughter in law Cynthia Joanning.

Born in Hastings, Lyle grew up on the family farm with his brothers and younger sister. His early education was at a two room country school he rode his bicycle to. He helped out on the farm, and learned many skills that would define him.

After high school, Lyle decided to enlist rather than wait to be drafted. This allowed him to earn his place as an engineer. He drove fuel trucks around Pleiku, Vietnam for a year, and trained other soldiers as an Assistant Instructor. At this point the Army recognized his talent with driving large vehicles and relocated him to Germany to drive military trucks down narrow European streets and alleys.

After his service, Lyle roamed the country on his motorcycle. Upon his return he met Janice Menshek, and they were married on September 23rd, 1972 at St. Kevin's Catholic Church. The union would be a strong one, and they remained devoted to each other for the next fifty-two years. Their love continues to inspire family and friends.

Lyle was a union welder when they started their family together, but his independent nature needed more. By 1982 he was starting his own business part time, and in a few years Lyle Wolf's Handyman Service was his full time job. His creativity and honesty quickly earned him a loyal client base, and he helped many people for the rest of his working life.

Lyle's unique personality will be missed the most by his friends and family. He consistently chose to be goofy, funny, helpful, and nice. There was a joke for every occasion, and often a pun to go along with that. His optimistic spirit shown through in every aspect of his life, from the way he dove into projects to how he told his jokes. To know him was to love him.

After he retired, he devoted his time to friend and family, both in real life and on facebook. He generated his humorous woodworking projects like the 'quarter pounder' and the 'stool sample.' :) He also spent time helping Jan with gardening projects and visiting his grandchildren. He became active in the Lakeville Legion Post 44, and may hold the unofficial record for poppies distributed during the donation drive before Memorial Day.

Lyle is survived by his wife Janice Wolf, children Matthew Wolf, Timothy (Rita) Wolf, and Angela (Jeff) Goehring, and cherished grandchildren Shukan, Priya, Aiden and Riley. He also leaves behind his siblings Dale (Joyce) Wolf and Sally (Dennis) Lee, sister in law Judy Wolf, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Those who wish to honor his memory may send a donation to the Disabled American Vets or the American Legion.
