Margaret "Peg" Louise
Stokes
Aug 25, 1931 — Oct 12, 2026
Apple Valley
Margaret "Peg" Stokes, 95, of Apple Valley, MN, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026 at Ecumen Seasons of Apple Valley, MN, with her family near.
Born August 25, 1931, in Grand Forks, ND to William and Mary Klemer, Peg spent her school age years in Larimore, ND with her parents and brother, John. She graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks with a degree in Art. She taught school age children through college students, sharing her passion of creativity and coloring "outside the lines."
She married Wallace Stokes on July 2, 1961. They lived in Fargo, ND where their two daughters, Mary and Julie, were born. In 1971 they moved to Williston, ND until the time of Wally's death in 2012. Peg enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was involved in her church, working part time at the college teaching Art, and at LaSilhouette, a women's clothing store. She found others in Williston who had the same passion for being creative and was involved in The Boutique, where they got together to sell their crafts. In 2012, she moved to Fargo for about a year, before moving to Apple Valley where she lived at the time of her death.
Peg is survived by her daughters, Mary (Don) Paulsrud and grandson, Nicholas, of Ashley, ND and Julie Stokes of Apple Valley, MN, her sister- in- law, Karen Knatterud, nephews Lawrence Klemer, Neal Klemer, Kim Knatterud, and Kent Knatterud and nieces Dena Knatterud and Darci Downey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, her parents, her brother John and his wife Joan, many aunts and uncles, and some very special friends.
Peg and Wally will be buried together at a later date at the Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, North Dakota.
We would like to thank Grace Hospice and Ecumen Seasons for the wonderful care she received during her final days.
When you look at a sunrise or sunset, that may just be our Mom finally finding time to paint.
