Marie A. Deaven, age 107, of Farmington, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026.
Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul; her sister-in-law, Marie Kehren; her siblings, Ben, Reinhold, and Walter; and her infant brother, Eugene.
She is survived by her children, Paul (Patricia) Deaven, Kathleen (Tomi) Deaven, Karen (Randy) Jacobs, and Ron (Lesley) Deaven; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her brother, Raymond Kehren; and other loving family and friends.
Marie proudly served her country during World War II as a Technician Third Grade. She was stationed at Davis–Monthan Field in Tucson, Arizona, and later at Headquarters, 20th Signal Service Battalion in Washington, D.C. Her military specialty was photography, a highly skilled and trusted position.
While serving in Tucson, she worked in public relations and was responsible for photographing damaged government equipment as well as classified machinery. In Washington, D.C., she served as a photographic laboratory technician, processing all types of film and preparing chemical solutions used in development. She operated 16mm developing equipment, copy cameras, photostatic machines, and other specialized processing equipment with precision and discretion.
Marie also performed extensive restoration work on books and documents that had been water- and fire-damaged during the war, including materials recovered from Japan and Germany. Her work in military photographic laboratories required technical expertise, careful attention to detail, and a deep sense of responsibility. She took great pride in serving her country through this vital behind-the-scenes work.
Following her military service, Marie earned the prestigious title of Life Master as an accomplished bridge player, reflecting her sharp intellect, strategic mind, and competitive spirit.
Marie lived an extraordinary life that spanned more than a century. Her strength, resilience, intelligence, and devotion to both her family and her country leave a lasting legacy that will be remembered for generations.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at NorthCross Church, 19400 Ipava Ave., Lakeville, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church.
Marie will be buried with full Military Honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery next to her husband, Paul.
