Mary Ann Falkenberg, age 81, passed away peacefully in her home on January 13, 2026, in Burnsville, Minnesota, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by love, grace, and the comfort of family and her Lord.
Born on August 26, 1944, in Hayfield, Minnesota, Mary lived a life marked by elegance and quiet strength. She carried herself with dignity and warmth, and those who knew her will remember her thoughtful presence, devout faith, and loving nature.
Mary was deeply devoted to her family. She cherished the relationships she cultivated throughout her life and considered many friends to be members of her family. She had a refined appreciation for fashion, beauty, design, and décor. As an award-winning kitchen and bath designer, Mary found profound joy in creating beautiful spaces for herself and others. Her home was a place of welcome conversation, sophistication, and comfort.
She is survived by her sister, Carol Silverstein (Thompson) of Rochester, Minnesota; her niece and goddaughter, Sherri Halleland (Silverstein) of Rochester, Minnesota; her sister-in-law, Diane Thompson (Norgaard) of Villa Park, Illinois; her nephew, Andy Thompson of Tower Lakes, Illinois; and her nieces, Jessica Rau (Thompson) of Wheaton, Illinois, and Cassie Mancione (Thompson) of Tower Lakes, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her sons, Omar Majeed and Allen Thompson; her brother, Dale Thompson; her mother, Florence Hasty (Nelson); and her father, Sanford Thompson.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Trabert family, close friends, and hospice caregivers, whose compassion and support brought comfort during her final days.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on February 28, 2026 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 12650 Johnny Cake Ridge Road, Apple Valley, MN 55124. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, with lunch to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her honor to Lutheran Social Services.
