In Loving Memory of Matthew Munzen
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Munzen, who left us unexpectedly after a short illness on August 14, 2026. Born on October 7, 1974, in St. Paul, MN, Matt's life was a testament to joy, kindness, and the love he shared with all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Matt was the cherished son of Gerald and Dianne Munzen, who nurtured his vibrant spirit and supported him in every endeavor. A beloved husband to Sarah Bartlett, Matt and Sarah celebrated 17 years of marriage, beginning their journey together on a sweltering day in Florida on August 7, 2009. Their union was marked by laughter, adventure, and the companionship of their beloved Tonkinese cats, whom Matt adored deeply.
He was a devoted stepfather to Austen and Ben Mitchell, who brought immense joy to his life. Matt's family extended to his siblings, Julie Bickerstaff and her husband, Mike, and brother Mike Munzen, along with his nephew and nieces Carter, Hailee, Maia, and Isabella. His presence will also be dearly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were touched by his warmth.
Matt was a man of great intellect and determination, graduating from Rosemount High School, St. Thomas University, and William Mitchell Law School. His career spanned roles at Target, Optum, Deluxe, and Delta Air Lines, where he was respected and loved for his dedication and camaraderie.
Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Matt had a unique gift for bringing people together. He was always ready with a joke to lighten the mood, and his kindness touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A service to celebrate Matt's life will be held at Briano's Chart House, located at 11287 Klamath Trail, Lakeville, MN on August 27th, 2026 from 2:30-6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. White, Dr. Cordner, and all the wonderful nurses at M Health Fairview for their compassionate care during Matt's final days.
As we remember Matt, let us honor his memory by embracing the joy, laughter, and love he brought into our lives. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
