Obituary

Norma Irene Sell was called to her heavenly home on July 12, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born on March 26, 1935 to Ruby (nee Strathern) and George Waldow.

Norma attended a one room schoolhouse in Rich Valley (District 20) until entering Rosemount High School from which she graduated in 1952. In her youth, she was active in 4-H, winning several Champion ribbons. She married her high school sweetheart, Elroy Sell, on June 3, 1953 at St. John's Lutheran Church Rich Valley, where they were lifetime members. They were blessed with 5 children. Norma and Elroy also fostered many children in their early married life.

Norma's grandparents were the first settlers of Rich Valley (the original Rosemount), building their homestead there. She grew up on the family farm, moved to a home on the property next to the schoolhouse when she got married, and then built a new home 18 years later on a different section of the farm. Due to failing health in her last 2 years, she moved into an assisted living facility three miles from the homestead in her beloved Rosemount.

Norma loved her vocation as a bus driver for ISD 196. She drove a "big bus" for several years, including activity runs and charter trips for team and band events. Her favorite charter trips took students to the Gun Flint Trail. As soon as she could, however, she drove a special ed bus, which she loved.

Norma spent her time in various ways. She volunteered at Fairview Ridges in the Radiology Department and as the treasurer of the Pine Bend Cemetery. At church, she was involved in the Altar Guild, choir, Ladies Aid, and quilting group; she also was head of the funeral committee, a Sunday School & VBS teacher, and organist. In her younger years, she loved to square dance and go bowling. Later, she was a member of the Kampers Klub and traveled both domestically and internationally. Norma loved family gatherings and having family drop by on a Sunday afternoon.

Norma is preceded in death by her loving husband (Elroy), parents (George & Ruby), , brother (Richard), infant sister (Ina Mae), and son (Robert). She is survived by her children: Janell Crisp (Raymond), Kim Brown (Dennis), Nadine Meyer (Monte), and Tammy Lisowy (Glenn); 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 6 nieces and a nephew, and many friends who dearly cared for her.

Visitation will be held at White Funeral Home (14560 Pennock Ave., Apple Valley) on Sunday, July 19 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at St. John Lutheran Church Rich Valley (14385 Blaine Ave., Rosemount) on Monday, July 20 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior. Interment follows the service in the church cemetery. A lunch will be served.
