Obituary

Patrick J. Haley, age 58, of Rosemount, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 12, 1967, in New York, New York, Patrick was the son of Harold Haley and Francoise Haley.

From the very beginning, Patrick faced challenges, having been born with Down Syndrome at a time when many families were encouraged to institutionalize children with disabilities. Their decision to bring Patrick home was one of the greatest blessings his family could have known. He never let his condition define him. He lived a full, joyful, and remarkable life; almost twice as long as expected.

Patrick attended school and graduated from Tappan Zee High School. During those years, he enjoyed spending time with friends through ARC activities and cherished the many family vacations and gatherings that filled his life with happiness. He especially loved Thanksgiving trips to his favorite uncle's home where he could spend time with all of his cousins that he loved so much especially Chris, summers spent at Uncle Frank's camp, pool parties, movies, sports, and a myriad of other activities. Patrick's amazing smile and kind spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

After moving to Minnesota, Patrick became involved with Owobopte, later known as ProAct, where he worked for 20 years until 2020. During that time, he formed countless friendships — including a special fondness for the soda machine. His final enclave position was with Apple Valley Parks and Recreation, where Ann Stocker served as his supervisor, mentor, and friend.

Patrick was also an active member of River Valley Project Explore and Special Olympics, organizations that brought him tremendous joy and connection throughout his life. He loved dances, dinners, cruises, theater outings, ballgames, socials, bowling, bingo, and Music in the Park events. Patrick proudly played softball as "The Catcher" and participated in Special Olympics bowling tournaments every year.

Patrick made friends easily and was surrounded by many caring people throughout his life, especially Cathy Elsen, who began as his PCA and became a dear, dear friend for more than 30 years. Patrick would have wanted to personally thank everyone who supported, loved, and cared for him over the years — so from the family, thank you to all of you.

Patrick was preceded in death by his mother, Francoise Haley, and his father, Harold Haley.

He is survived by his sister, Colette Haley; brother, Paul and his sister-in-law Kim; nieces Megan, Nicole, and Faith; along with many other loving relatives and friends.

Patrick was a incredible loving brother, a "great, great, great, great" uncle, and friend who was always smiling, joking around, and treating others with kindness and respect. He lived a life filled with joy, friendship, and experiences that few of us are fortunate enough to know.

A memorial service honoring Patrick's life, humility, and selfless spirit will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Apple Valley Bowl.
