Richard E. "Dick" Johnson of Apple Valley, MN died September 28, 2025, surrounded at home by his family. Dick was born on April 4, 1938, in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from Southport High School in 1956. He then attended Indiana Central College (Indianapolis University) for one year. As he grew up, Dick was a bowling alley pin boy, worked in the calf and sheep alley at the Indianapolis stock yards with his father, repaired Philco appliances, worked in a Stop and Shop Super Market and was assistant manager of both a Shell and a Standard station. In 1959 he joined the DuPont Company where he spent 26 years in sales. Indianapolis, Dayton and Cincinnati, OH and Minneapolis were his territories. His customers were like family to him.
In 1985 early retirement was offered by DuPont and he then started with Pitman Company in sales with his territory being Minneapolis, western Minnesota and South Dakota. Dick spent 16 years with them before retiring in 2001. He then began working for Parkview Golf Course in Eagan. He worked there part-time until 2012 when the course was sold. In 2005 he went back into sales for A P Graph Company in Bloomington for three years while continuing at Parkview.
Dick was an avid bowler, golfer and pheasant hunter. He spent 46 years hunting with the same family in South Dakota. Dick spent six years, 1960 – 1966, in the United States Army Reserve.
Dick is survived by his wife, Cheryl; two daughters, Pamela (Lee) Hollatz, Farmington and Jennifer (Jared) Darrington of CO/MN; five grandchildren, Samantha Przybyiski, Jackson Hollatz, Lauren Lopez, Maxwell Darrington, and Gracie Darrington; step-son Tim (Julie) Sturges, step-daughter Suzanne Collins; three step-grandchildren, Jakob Sturges, Abbigayle Sturges and Tyler Collins along with two "adopted" grandchildren, Sam and Joey McNellis.
Preceded in death by his parents, Merrill and Grace; two brother, James (Sarah) and Merrill (Evelyn).
Services to be held Friday, October 3, 2025, at White Funeral Home in Apple Valley. Visitation will be at 2:00 pm with services at 3:00 pm.
