Obituary

Robert Edward Watson passed away on 9/15/2026 at the age of 69; at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Norfolk, VA, to Grandison L. and Kathryn Rimer Watson. Upon his High School Graduation, he signed up for the U.S. Marine Corp. He spent four years with the Marines at Quantico, VA. After leaving the Marine Corp, he held a variety of jobs. Some included working for a Gun Company in Alexandria, VA; Budget Analyst for the U.S. State Department; working for the U.S. Customs in the St. Paul, MN, Post Office; when he was in between jobs he worked for various Temp Companies; and his longest held position was working for the FBI at FBIHQ in Washington, DC, as a Budget Analyst. He also went to College part time while working, and got a Degree in Business Accounting. He Retired from the U.S. Government in June of 2013 with almost 34 years of Government Service. After Retirement he worked a while for Comfort Keepers driving people to appointments, shopping, lunch, etc. He really enjoyed this job. He helped many people during his time with Comfort Keepers. Robert was an avid book lover, and accumulated many, many books over his life-time. Reading was one of his favorite pass times. He also loved to watch any, and all, Sports on TV. He enjoyed going to Sports games too; but he always said that he could see more of the game on TV than being there. He loved pets and had two special cats, Rosie and Levi. One of his favorite hobbies was to send out cards and notes to his many friends around the Country. He bought cards when we were on our trips. He liked to find unique cards and cards he thought would have a special meaning to the person. He loved to take road trips across the Country. We went to many places throughout our marriage. He loved Museums and learning new things. He also loved to shop! I don’t think there was ever a store that he went into where he could not find something to purchase. He was a quiet and very observant person. If you wanted to talk about something he liked, such as sports or history, etc., he would join in. He was not a guy to just have a gab session with.

He had many good friends he met through his various jobs. His Best Friend for life was Keith Meeks. He liked getting together with Keith as often as possible when we lived in Virginia. When we moved to Minnesota he met and became good friends with Rick Sollberger. He enjoyed going to sports games with Rick, as well as talking sports and other things with him. They were good buddies. He liked to have Rick over to watch spots on TV. He had several close Cousins in the Cincinnati, OH, area that he was very fond of and visited often. He enjoyed spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with these Cousins. He enjoyed collecting trinkets; sports hats; business cards; magnets; and many other things; and books, of course! He enjoyed planning parties and inviting a big crowd. He loved getting people together. He had a keen sense of humor and loved to share jokes with people. His favorite foods were Salmon and Vanilla Ice Cream.

He enjoyed writing and kept log books throughout his life. He has a collection dating back to the 1980s. He collected Business Cards from all kinds of places. He has a whole collection of books containing Business cards. He loved Poetry and wrote many poems. He has a binder full of poems he has written. He also had several of his poems published and has the copies of the books they are in. He attempted to write a Novel years ago; but never finished it.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, his Sister Laura Vorhees, Aunts and Uncles and some special Cousins. He is survived by his Wife Pamela Watson; his Sister-in-Law Cheryl Christenson, and Cheryl’s five daughters (Shelly/Ron Lancaster, Heidi Christenson, Becci Christenson, Denise/Brent Wold, and Sheila/Dave Bauer); Nephew Matt/Ruth Frederickson whom he was very close to; Matt’s sister’s Tammy Frederickson and Diana Hammer; as well as many cousins and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service held for him on Friday, 6/25/2027, at White Funeral Home, 12804 Nicollet Avenue, Burnsville, MN 55337. Details for the Service will be provided at a later date. Interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 – 34th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN, 55450, on Tuesday, 10/27/2026 – 9:00 am.
