Obituary

Sandra Kay Grillo (Ronning), 81, of Side Lake, MN, left us peacefully on March 4, 2025, surrounded by family. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Sandra, or "Sandy," will always be remembered for her kindness and deep love for her family and friends.

Born on May 6th, 1943, in Duluth, MN, Sandy grew up the daughter of Roger and Kassie Ronning, and sister to her brother Dale and sisters Beth and Heather. Sandy moved to Hibbing, MN when she was entering the fifth grade and proceeded to make many lifelong friends during her time on the Iron Range. Growing up in Hibbing, Sandy was a proud member of the church choir, a Jobs Daughter Honor Queen and one of the founding members of the Renowns Fan Club.

On August 4th, 1962, Sandy married the love of her life, Warren Grillo. The two shared a loving romance that lasted nearly 63 years and together they were the foundation for four children, twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren whom she loved immensely.  After marriage, Sandy's enduring support of Warren's career took them across the country while raising their children in Minneapolis, South Bend and West Lafayette, IN, Woodridge, IL, Oconomowoc, WI and finally Apple Valley, MN. Many close friends were made along the way, mostly while supporting their children in their sports and activities.

A lover of life at the lake, Sandy and Warren moved back to "The Range" and Side Lake, MN to her "Little Green Cabin". There she spent her days winning many bocce ball championships with Warren, making pasties for the church fundraiser, quilting blankets for her grandchildren,
entertaining family on summer holidays and spending time with her close friends at the lake.

Sandy is survived by her husband Warren, her Children Roger (Wanda) Grillo, Cheryl (Greg) Callin, Sonya (Duane) Halvorson, and Paul (Katie) Grillo; as well as her grandchildren Dominic Grillo, Lauren Allen, Drew Callin, Anthony Callin, Daniella Rafnson, Samantha Schulz, Alexana Schulz, Haily Halvorson, Kayla Ashland, Derek Ashland, Hannah Grillo, Joseph Grillo and nine great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Sandy's life will be held on March 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Lakeville, MN.  A gathering of family and friends will begin prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. and lunch at the church will follow the service.  All are welcome.  In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Hibbing High School Foundation.
