Scott Michael
Carlson
Oct 1, 1953 — Jun 18, 2025
Lakeville
Scott Michael Carlson, age 71, of Lakeville, MN, passed away on June 18, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born October 1, 1953, in Grand Rapids, MN, to James and Betty Carlson, Scott spent his childhood moving from base to base as the son of an Air Force airman. He eventually graduated from Rosemount High School and went on to attend Normandale Community College, where he met the love of his life, Pat. He later earned his bachelor's degree from Mankato State University.
Scott proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as an Interior Communications Electrician and retired from Lockheed Martin as a Database Architect. His sharp mind and dry wit were legendary.
But Scott's legacy goes far beyond resumes and ranks. He was a man of steady hands and strong opinions who showed his love in small ways. He was rarely without a pocket knife, often found at the family cabin—his favorite place in the world—or quietly cheering on his grandkids at games and concerts.
He's remembered for always having an opinion—whether you wanted to hear it or not—and for believing his way was the only way. He adored his six grandchildren and passed on his humor, stubbornness, and sarcasm in full force. He called his oldest granddaughter, Kyra, "Oyster Girl" after the two developed a tradition of sitting down and devouring oysters together—sometimes prompting a special trip just to track them down.
Scott loved hunting, had a habit of growling at kids and dogs for laughs, and famously told guests "go home" the moment they stepped through his door. Later in life, he swapped his Goldwing motorcycle for a Mazda Miata that looked like a mini supercar—and he drove it like one too.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Mark; and brothers-in-law Barry Brock and John Fisher. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pat; daughters Heather (Brad) Svenson and Erin Carlson; six grandchildren—Kyra, Zoey, Finnley, Spring, Annika, and Belle; sisters Cathy Brock and Chris Fisher; and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will miss him deeply.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday July 30, 2025, at the White Funeral Home, 14560 Pennock Ave., Apple Valley, MN (952-469-2723) with a gathering of family and friends starting at 10:30 AM. Interment, Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
