Stanley Arthur
Overby
Sep 7, 1931 — Jan 3, 2026
Lakeville
Stanley Arthur Overby, of Lakeville, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on September 7, 1931, in Hennepin County to Adolph and Margaret Overby, Stan was the youngest of two children, growing up alongside his beloved sister, Barbara.
As a young man, Stan helped his father build the family home and worked on their turkey farm in Farmington. He loved playing football and graduated from Farmington High School in 1950. Shortly after, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served in the Korean War, earning an honorable discharge as a Sergeant.
In 1954, upon returning home, Stan married his sweetheart, Marilyn Pietsch, also from Farmington. Together, they shared 72 wonderful years, raising three children—Randy, Joy, and Mike—and building a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. They enjoyed camping, boating, and spending time with their extended family and many friends. For many years, Stan and Marilyn cherished winters in their Florida home.
Stan began his career as a police officer for the Farmington Police Department and served as a volunteer firefighter for the Farmington Fire Department. Always eager to learn, he studied appliance repair and eventually opened his own appliance business in Bloomington and later Lakeville. After retiring from that venture, Stan started a seal coating company, staying active and engaged in new challenges.
Ambitious and adventurous, Stan lived life to the fullest. He believed the secret to a long, happy life was finding humor in everyday moments and laughing often. A devoted Shriner and Master Mason, Stan dedicated himself to improving the lives of others.
Stan is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; children Randy (Katie), Joy Johnson (Craig), and Mike (Kim Walstad); grandchildren Chad Johnson (Margaret), Heather Johnson (Brian Burch), and Nathan Overby (Maija Trenary); and great-grandchildren Adalyn and Everly Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Duff (Dale),.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Faith United Methodist Church (710 8th St., Farmington, MN). Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 12:00 p.m. and a lunch reception.
