Obituary

Susan S. Swanton, age 76, passed away on Thursday, June 27, at Fairview Ridges Hospital. Mrs. Swanton was born, January 11, 1943, in Deadwood, South Dakota. She lived in Rapid City, SD, the daughter of Jack R. and Madonna Smith. She was a graduate of the University of Nebraska in 1965 with a degree in Education and taught in the Mobridge, SD, system as a Kindergarten teacher. She married Michael E. Swanton in 1966, and also lived in Burnsville and St. Cloud, MN, and North Platte, Nebraska, before moving to Lakeville, MN, when her husband retired from his banking career.
Mrs. Swanton was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jacqueline Rochester and June Woodson, a niece, Patty Woodson, and son, Michael John. She is survived by her husband, Michael; her daughter, Sarah (Mark ) of Lakeville, MN, three grandchildren, Michael John, Tyler Scott, and Amber Lynn. Mrs. Swanton is also survived by a son, Michael Anthony Freiberg of Houston, TX, and his three children, Marissa, Mathew, and Malachi.
Mrs. Swanton was an accomplished quilter and won awards for her creative designs. She enjoyed reading and the political environment. She and her husband were also involved in political affairs in the communities where she lived.
A celebration of her life will be held 12 PM Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Risen Savior Church, Burnsville. A memorial will be established to support education and Native American causes.
