Obituary

Tim Kauffman of Burnsville, MN passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2026.

Timothy Alan Kauffman was born June 7, 1962 in Cedar Rapids, IA to Daniel and Evelyn (Senecaut) Kauffman. Tim grew up in Viroqua, WI where his 4x400 track relay team held the school record for over 40 years. He attended the University of WI – La Crosse where he majored in physical education, played football and ran track. After college, Tim served 6 ½ years in the US Army. He was a jumpmaster in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC where he jumped out of a perfectly good airplane 31 times. He then served as a Budget Analyst for the White House Communications Agency in Washington DC where he traveled with the President and Vice President. After his time in the Army, he worked in the reinsurance industry for over 30 years, retiring in 2025.

Tim married his college sweetheart, Betsy Klobuchar, in 1989. They later welcomed two daughters, Emily and Grace. Tim loved his family and his favorite and greatest role was that of Dad. He never missed a sporting event, band concert, school event and even coached his girls in basketball and softball. Tim faithfully cheered for his beloved Minnesota Vikings and was always convinced “this was their year.” He also loved to play golf.

Tim is preceded in death by his father, mother-in-law Margaret Klobuchar, his grandparents and his beloved black lab, Wilson. He is survived by his wife Betsy, daughters Emily and Grace (Cole), his mother, his brothers Brian, Mark (Diana), and Justin, his father-in-law Richard Klobuchar, brother-in-law Michael Klobuchar, sister-in- law Becca Klobuchar, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 30 at White Funeral Home in Burnsville with visitation from 1:00-3:00pm. A prayer service will be held at 3:00pm. Feel free to wear your favorite Vikings attire – Tim would love that.

In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to Last Hope (animal rescue), Brainpower in a Backpack (school district 191) or the charity of your choice.
