Obituary

Bill Vogel, 100, passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2023.Bill was born on June 23, 1922 to Arnold and Elizabeth (Thelen) Vogel.  He graduated from New Prague High School. After graduation he spent time at the First State Bank of New Market.   In November of 1942, he entered the US Army.  He was on active duty until January 1946 and was so proud to be a WWII Veteran.  He returned to the bank after giving service to our country and he remained working at the bank until his death.   In September of 2022, he celebrated his 75th Anniversary at the bank.

Bill married the love of his life, Kay (David) on June 6, 1950.  Together they raised four children.  Bill and Kay were blessed with almost 73 years together in marriage.  It was obvious to all the love Bill and Kay shared.

His first passion was family, but he had another passion - baseball!  He was well known in the local communities for his years at first base.  He loved the sport so much that he actually didn't retire from playing until the age of 90!   He also loved all sports including fishing and hunting.

Bill's faith was deep.  In his 100 years, he was only a member of one parish - St. Nicholas Catholic Church in New Market.   His family finds his rosaries everywhere!

Bill is survived by his wife, Kay; children Bob (Laura), Mary (John) Christiansen, Janet (Bryan) Freeman, and Ken(deceased) (Lois). He had six grandchildren; Anita (Jeremy), Karen (Jason), David (Samantha), Kristin (Drew), Catie (Derek) and Tony.   He had five great-grandchildren; Mikayla, Emily, Grace, Tenley and Aurora.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sister and son Ken.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3rd, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in New Market.   People who knew him will not be surprised that he requested a Saturday funeral so people wouldn't have to take off work!

Visitation will be from 10:00 - 12:00 and Mass will be at noon.  Burial and a lunch will follow. Arrangements are with White Funeral Home in Lakeville.  In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Honor Flight Twin Cities which allows our veterans to visit Washington DC and honor their fellow service members: https://www.honorflighttwincities.org/.
