Thomas, Robert J. (Bob) Age 77 of Burnsville MN, died May 5, 2022, of Alzheimer's. He grew up in Mankato MN and lived most of his adult life in the Twin Cities. Preceded in death by parents Helene and Jerry Thomas. Survived by wife Margo Kirwin and siblings Marti Rommel (Mike), David Thomas (Kathy Joerg), Steve Thomas (Casey), and Jan Berge (Dave), nieces, nephews.
Full of loving kindness, Bob was a great friend and gentle confidant. He never did anything halfway, whether it was learning piano as a kid or practicing gymnastics. Bob loved people and he loved to laugh. He loved life. He had a great heart and mind. For many years he practiced Buddhist philosophy and meditation, to where his spirituality had brought him. He studied Humanities at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and later earned an MBA from University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.
He worked hard and he played hard. He did volunteer work for hospice and in children's adaptive skiing. He attained a blackbelt in Karate, and he loved running and rollerblading, hiking and biking, skiing and teaching kids to ski, and deep sea and wreck diving. He loved to travel and traveled all through Europe as a young man, later returning to the Czech Republic and Germany with his wife Margo, and to wherever skiing and diving would take him and them. He traveled US national parks on motorcycle, attaining the dubious distinction of the "iron butt challenge."
He loved greatly and will always be greatly loved and missed.
Bob served in the US Air Force from 1962-66. Funeral July 6 : Visitation at 11am ; Service at 12pm ; Ft. Snelling Memorial Chapel, 1 Tower Ave, Minneapolis , 55111 (Hwy 55 & 5); followed by Interment at 1:30pm , Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34 th Ave S, Minneapolis, 55450 .
